NEWS & VIEWS

AWARDS, AWARDS & REWARDS!!  All members and guests that attended the November meeting were treated to a very special evening. If you love viewing truly exceptional recoveries, the annual Find of the Year contest was as good as it gets. From Civil War Artifacts, some very rare coins to some amazing jewelry with several rings valued in the four digit range, the 2008 Find of the Year Contest had it all and then some. All members present had the pleasure of voting via secret ballot and a numbering system with no names attached, for the find each one believed was worthy of Find of the Year. The voting was very close with two awesome rings being tied. A revote of the two rings by all members present resulted in one winner. Congratulations goes to Terry Taylor, this years Find of the Year winner. His awesome 14K Gold Ring with 17 diamonds took top honors. Throughout the year, Terry has made many great jewelry finds hunting the waters of various lakes in the Tri State area. Congratulations also to Clair Klingensmith who came in second with his beautiful Man’s Gold Ring. The Find of the Year Contest is always one of the most enjoyable and very special events of the year.

Congratulations are also in order to our Treasure Hunter of the Year and Coinshooter of the year, Joe Novosat. I believe this is the first time that one person has won both top honors in the same year. Joe’s impressive 3,553 total coins found as this year’s top Coinshooter is a goal any of us can set our sights on. I must say that after viewing his monthly displays throughout the year, the quality of the coins found was as amazing as the number of coins found. Joe had a perfect score of 140 points in our Treasure Hunter category also and with the quality of competition during the seven months of Show & Tell, capturing  top honors in both categories is a first time in club history and I am sure, will be a very difficult feat to repeat by Joe or anyone else. Congratulations must also go out to our coinshooter runner up, Clair Klingensmith, 1920 total coins found and to Treasure Hunter of the Year 2nd Place finish, Red Craft ( 135 points ) and 3rd. Place finish, Dan Bollinger ( 125 points ).  All winners received Silver Dollars with the first place winners receiving Award plaques in each category also. Along with the awards came the rewards of all the great finds each one made and I am sure the great memories that come when making each find. Special Thanks to Jim Hindman for making the Coinshooter cane which he then presented to Joe Novosat as an extra special award for Coinshooter of the Year. Jim felt with digging all those coins, not to mention the trash one also finds, a cane must surly be needed to arise and walk home after a hard day of detecting and kneeling down to dig so many targets. Actually, the cane is meant to be passed on from year to year to whoever is the recipient of this award. So it will be up to Joe, next year to you to pass it on unless he repeats. Pictures of Joe and the cane are on our website. More detailed pictures of the cane will be posted as soon as Jim puts some extra special touches on his one of a kind gift to our club with is a gift that will continue to give for years to come.

Our December 18 meeting and Christmas party is I hope on everyone’s agenda. With the Gold Coin drawing, all members bringing a gift for the annual random gift drawing, great food and of course, the scrumptious array of Christmas goodies that everyone brings plus the friendship and stories to be told and heard, make this a must  meeting to attend. Family Bowl Away will once again be serving our dinner in the meeting room and will be providing coffee and soft drinks, at no charge. Everyone planning to eat as a group is asked to see the head waitress Diane, and place your food orders before entering the meeting room. Reminder: All members are encouraged to attend and bring family members and friends. Also, if you are planning on being in the gift drawing, please bring a gift from the $5 to $10 range to donate. Gifts should relate in someway to our hobby but this is not absolutely necessary. Rule of thumb, bring something you would enjoy receiving. This meeting is meant to be very informal with the emphasis on friendship and camaraderie. Most important, bring your best Christmas Spirit.

Hope to see everyone at the December meeting, Best Wishes for a Healthy, Joyous and Blessed Holiday Season.

 Season.

UPDATE ON BOOBIE

Today Dec 10th,   I went to spend some time with Boobie.  We mainly sat around his living room and talked about the various clubs, parties, metal detecting and the BCTH web site.

It will be a little while until it is ready for placing on line. He showed it to me and we reviewed some of the new features. It really is nice and it is very user friendly.

Boobie is improving every day, he has set aside the walker and he is able to climb stairs. He is waiting for his next visit to the doctor to find out when and what his next step is.  He has a 15 minute car riding time limit and about 5 minutes in a straight back chair in front of the computer.

They seem to have time limits on his therapy so he does not injure the work they did on his spine.  This isgood and he is listening to them.

I only hope there is enough time this coming summer to go everywhere he is planning to go.

His wife says she can see improvement almost every day.  You know how time flies so he will be up and about fairly quick.

Christmas Party

DECEMBER 18TH

When you arrive for the Christmas Party please go right to Diane the waitress and place your orders, she will not be taking orders in the meeting room.

There will be a very short welcoming to start things off. We may discuss a few things at that time. Of course the gift drawing will take place after dinner. Please remember to bring your gift, you bring one, you get one. The price range is $5.00 - $10 00 and if you go over a little we won’t tell anyone. They should be to be metal detecting orientated but this is not necessary. It would be nice if the gifts are wrapped and marked male or female if necessary. We will also have a 50/50.

See you there

Those who come bearing goodwill,

Please get behind those who come bearing gifts.
