NEWS & VIEWS

ANOTHER YEAR!! Hard to believe, but another year is coming to an end for each of us and for our club. Where did the time go? I once felt that upon my retirement, life would slow down a bit and that slower pace would cause time to at least seem to pass by at a lesser speed. NOT!! WRONG!! Three years have come and gone since retiring and I wonder, where did I find time to work? Granted, my involvement in various activities and organizations has kept me active, but I would not want it any other way. I am not complaining, it simply points to the thought that each day should be lived as though it might be the last. 2007 has been a busy and successful year for our club. We have seen many new faces which have become members throughout the year. Most of them have found us by visiting our website. Thanks to Pete & Boobie our webmasters, for the excellent job you have done. I get e mails each month with very positive comments on our site.

As this year winds down, October brought our last Show & Tell of the year which was another array of spectacular finds. Congratulations to the October winners and to the       members that received this year’s top honors and awards. The November meeting should be exciting as all members present will be voting on the tie breaker contest for this year’s Treasure Hunter of the Year. Also, all members are encouraged to bring what you consider your two best finds for the Find of the Year contest. Remember, you can bring only two items and if you place a value on them, it must be authenticated in writing by a certified person in that field, coin dealer, appraisal service, jeweler etc!  You do not have to list a value to show an item as monetary value does not always make an item worthy for a Find of the Year award.

All members present will vote via an anonymous numbering system on the best find winner

Anything found since the October 2006 meeting through this years October 18th meeting is permitted. Also, the November meeting will bring a presentation by guest speaker and member Steve Dodin, which is sure to be an attention getter. This years Awards will be presented at this meeting as well and the planning for our annual Christmas meeting and party will be discussed.

REMINDER: dues for the 2008 season is now being accepted. We ask all members to get your dues in as early as possible so we can submit the 2008 dues and member list to the FMDAC in January. Well, hope to see everyone at the November 15th meeting as a lot is taking place and I am sure your participation will be greatly appreciated by your fellow members and I am sure, everyone in attendance will be glad they came. Guests are more than welcome also, to any and all of our meetings.

Next month, I will mention comments on the FMDAC Convention, this November 2, 3, 4 at Conley’s Resort in Butler and our clubs participation as this year’s Convention Host Club. Best of health to all !!

FMDAC

Mid-Atlantic Chapter Hunt

The MAECC hunt was held October 28th, 2007, at the Carlisle Convention & Expo Center, in conjunction with the GPAA Gold Show. The hunt field was only 2 blocks away from the Convention Center. It was really a good layout for a hunt for an easy level hunt. There were plenty of targets and very good prizes. Vic, the officers and the seeders did a fine job with the hunt.  I got to sit a spell with a lot of old friends and shook up the FMDAC President Duane Biller when my twin brother Donald walked by the table. He thought it was me until I tapped his arm and he turned and seen me.  At over 70 years old we identical twins can still fool people.

The GPAA as usual put on a great show and it was nice to see several friends from that organization too.  I guess it is time to put some effort into cleaning and servicing our detectors. It is time for making a Christmas list full of metal detecting hints to give our spouses. Perhaps even finding them a Christmas seasonal job to get us that special gift that us guys want.  8^)

FMDAC

The FMDAC fall convention was held in Butler this year.. We wish to thank those members who helped make this event a successful venture. The concession stand was a welcome addition with all that hot food and drinks. I am sure no one went hungry. It was good to renew ties with friends who came clear across the country and from Canada to attend this event. Of course there were the speakers who presented three great seminars for the guests. There was the hobo nickels, the old time tools, and the dog license collectors club.  Again it couldn’t have been a success with out the Butler clubs support and all those who volunteered their time and efforts.
