NEWS & VIEWS

A NEW YEAR!! Hey, can you believe it, we have begun another year in the life of our club. I am in Florida as I compose these writings and have been since early January. I will say , I sure did not miss all the nasty weather that Pa. went through since Jan and I left. Sometimes it amazes me that a club such as ours has survived over the past 31 years. As we begin our 32nd. year, I feel an excitement that we are gonna have yet another interesting and exciting year of good hunts, interesting and fun meetings, some good guest speakers and hopefully, see our club continue to grow with new members and interesting activities. It is always a joy for me to see returning members each year and I always feel an excitement when a new face appears and I must say, the pride in our club grows with each time a new member joins our ranks. Hopefully, our club can at least in part, fill each members needs and wants, from the seasoned pros we are lucky to have, to the newest beginner that may come our way and begin to take part in our great hobby. I do want to stress that it is up to each and every member to make your wants and needs known. As I have said often, the only bad idea is an idea kept to one's self. It would be impossible to fill everyone's wishes to a tee, but hopefully working together, we can accommodate as much as possible. I do ask that if you are one of our more experienced members, please share what you can with our newest members that are eager to learn. This club and its members have always been very good at sharing techniques on equipment, tips on where and how to search and I am sure we will continue to be generous with our own fields of expertise.

This new year should be very interesting in many ways. I look at past years and wonder, how can we top that. Last year, 2007 was a very exceptional year with all that happened. Hosting the FMDAC Fall National Hunt was a one of a kind event. In 2001, our 25th anniversary brings back some very memorable moments, yet I have come to feel and I guess realize that toping a previous year should not be our goal. Each year, each month, each thing we do should be simply enjoyed as best we can at the time it takes place. If we do our best, it will always be memorable. Sometimes looking at the past can hinder growth, so I feel we need to simply do our best to meet the needs of our members, our hobby, and enjoy the times we have. I can think of many organizations that have fallen off because they tried to live by past successes and were not open to change. I guess change is inevitable, so why not go with the flow and maybe, continue to grow. Whoa, that's a mouthful, but it is probably a good idea in each of our own lives also.

A NEW YEAR

2008

Our meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month except

January and February. These meetings are held at the Family Bowl – Away,

540 Fair Ground Road, Butler,PA

The first meeting of 2008 will be on March 20th, 2008. We hope to see you there.

Punxsutawney Phil says that the Spring Hunt is just around the corner.

Please think of something to donate.

Our President Jack Barrett is sunning in Florida at the time of this writing. I did not want to interrupt his period of relaxation before returning to the cold north. So I am sure he will not be at a loss for words when he returns.

He tells me that he will try and make the April meeting. Jack is trying to avoid getting too much sun and is having difficulty deciding where to ride his motorcycle. (a typical Snow Bird problem ).

I believe his thoughts from the last newsletter would be very appropriate for this news brief.

THOUGHT

The coming of the New Year,

Will give our club yet another yearly start,

Any continued success we may have,

Will be governed by what is in each member’s heart.

I wrote this in February and just received Jacks email. So I left this in for a filler.
