AMAZING!! Jan & I having returned from our annual winter stay in Florida and presiding over my first meeting of 2008, it was great to see everyone again. I certainly want to extend a big Thank You to Terry, Jim, Harry, Boobie and everyone else that gives of themselves to keep our club going. Often as I look at our club and what all goes on and knowing what it takes to keep our club moving forward, I am sometimes amazed. Maybe the word amazed may seem like a strong word, because this word can often mean seeing or finding something that was very unexpected. Certainly, the idea that our club continues to move on is not unexpected as I know the commitment and dedication to our club and our hobby of all those I have mentioned as well as each and every member is really the backbone of any success we enjoy and ever will have. Still, with the problems that most non-profit clubs and organizations are having to deal with these days, prices of gas, precious metal prices in our case, just to name a couple, I often feel at least a little amazed. This feeling comes to me when I see our well attended meetings, new faces becoming new members at most meetings, growth is so important. Also, the finds our members make each month is nothing less than amazing to me. Often, this feeling then becomes one of confidence which is good but is also a feeling to be wary of. Many organizations and people have failed in their endeavors simply by having too much confidence. I guess the confidence I feel is that with the dedication our membership has, we will be able to stay afloat and hopefully continue to prosper through all the difficult times ahead. .
The bottom line is, we all love this hobby, enjoy sharing it with each other, and as long as we are all open to change and the needs and concerns of each other, our success should continue. I am sure the founders of our club would be amazed to see where we are today, and would be proud of what they started. Still, I am amazed ever so slightly at times. The May 15 meeting was well attended and a lot was accomplished. Our Spring Hunt and Terry’s free hunt on June 14 at Terry’s home in Emlenton sure sounds like yet another great time for members and guests. I hope everyone will plan on attending this one of a kind event. Hands on demonstrations on the use of most detectors are planned along with tips and techniques from many of our more seasoned hunters will be made available. As in the past, everyone should plan on bringing a covered dish to share for the picnic. Any and all donations for any of the hunts are also greatly appreciated. A special welcome to all the new members into our ranks this year. It is great to see new faces, many of which are becoming involved in our hobby for the first time. I hope our club is very helpful to you and especially helps you get the most out of your participation in our hobby. Thanks also to those members that refer friends and relatives to us. Our growth in membership over the past few years is largely due to your efforts and our superior website. Thanks to Pete, Boobie and Harry for the superb running and maintaining of our website. The new forum is now up and working, so I hope everyone can find some time to visit our website and use the forum. A lot of hours and work went into getting it ready. Well, if the rain ever stops, maybe we can get out and swing that coil some. The best of health to all, here’s hoping everyone can find time to get out and that your finds are truly amazing.

SPRING HAS ARRIVED
Yes Spring has arrived and it is here with a bang. We have had 89, 90, 91, 92 & 93 degree days here in early June. Try to wear light colored clothes and take lots & lots of water while treasure hunting. Take a break and sit under a tree for a few moments.

How To Pinpoint With A DD Coil
Picture your DD coil as a windshield wiper blade out in front of you. As you sweep the coil (wiper blade), and it passes over a target, the target is not detected until it is directly under the center of the blade. Wiggle, or move the coil slightly back and forth from left to right keeping the tone as high and loud as possible, as you slowly pull the coil back towards you. When the signal drops out, the target is directly off the front tip of the coil. (See diagram below).
